Beef, rail and the river
Rockhampton sits on the Fitzroy River and the Tropic of Capricorn. Its economy leans heavily on the beef industry, with meatworks, saleyards at Gracemere and the stock-and-station and transport businesses that surround them. Parkhurst and Gracemere have industrial and rural-service estates, Port Curtis and Lakes Creek have older heavy-industry areas, and Kawana, Frenchville and Norman Gardens carry retail and trade. Yeppoon, on the coast, is the leisure and holiday centre for the region.
Because so much activity is rural-linked, sites are big and open. A machinery or livestock-service yard may have no walls at all.
What we do about open yards
Open yards need cameras aimed at the boundary and gates, not at the buildings. We suggest a perimeter line with a tripwire, a gate camera and, where there is fuel or stock, a dedicated view. The AI layer checks those cameras during your set hours and emails the people you choose if a person is detected, with the frame attached. See farms and rural, warehouses and logistics and service stations for similar set-ups.
For retail and trade sites at Kawana and Frenchville, retail shops and workshops apply. Offices and shared buildings in the CBD follow the offices and strata approach.
Installation arrangements
Rockhampton is outside South East Queensland. A local installer does the cabling and mounting, and we set up, connect and support the AI layer. Your footage stays on your recorder, with events and clips held on an Australian server. How it works follows the steps.
Floods, heat and distance
The Fitzroy River has flooded in the past, and low-lying parts of the city and surrounding properties have been cut off. Recorders and switches should be mounted above likely water levels, and cables in flood-prone areas should be planned with that in mind.
Central Queensland heat is intense, and summer afternoons hammer outdoor gear and roof-space cupboards. Recorders need ventilation. Summer storms bring lightning, so surge protection on power and data lines is a sound inclusion.
Rural blocks near Gracemere and out towards Yeppoon can have limited mobile signal. If a site's link depends on 4G, test the signal at the recorder before relying on it. Long distances between sheds mean long cable runs too, with fibre or purpose-built links being more reliable than a long cheap cable.
Livestock and wildlife move at night. Zones that avoid paddocks and a camera angle that looks along a fence reduce false alerts.
Queensland has, for example, the Invasion of Privacy Act 1971. This is general information, not legal advice, so check current legislation for your own situation. Staff should know about cameras, and audio is treated more strictly than video.
Where to begin
Share your recorder, camera count and the hours you want covered. We will confirm what the AI layer can do. See the installation page or contact us. Regions to the north and south are covered by Mackay and Brisbane.
